True story: One day this lady comes into the store and says she wants a white tea with mint and chili peppers in it. First I look out the window to see whether someone from the asylum is looking for her, then I remind myself that we have a reputation for custom blending. Well, why not mint and chili peppers?! So we spend a while tweaking it and... this tastes really good.
So, I say to her, "It was your idea, you get to name it." With no hesitation she says, "Fire Monkey." I start to ask, then remember my mentor's mantra: "Why ask why?" Fire Monkey it is. It has become one of my all time favorite teas, as well as one of my favorite on-the-spot blending stories.
PaiMuTan white tea, China green tea, Sencha green tea, peppermint leaves, elder flowers, chopped red chili peppers, peppercorns, rose petals. A delightful mint tea with a kiss of fire at the end. Bracing, original, addictive.
